Once again, our combined voices have proven to be more powerful than Big Tobacco's big bucks.
Thanks to the work of you and the rest of our E-Champions, the tobacco industry no longer has a home on WebMD's trusted health information website. This is a huge win in the fight against Big Tobacco - thank you for your help in making it happen!
In February I told you that Philip Morris, the world's largest multinational tobacco company, claims to want to help people quit smoking. I also told you that WebMD was taking money from Philip Morris and placing ads for Philip Morris's "quit-smoking program" on its website.
You and your fellow E-Champions found this as unacceptable as I did. You stepped up to the challenge and sent the CEO of WebMD over 5,000 emails urging him to immediately remove all Philip Morris ads from the WebMD site.
With that kind of grassroots action, how could he not listen? As of April 1st, all Philip Morris ads were removed from WebMD's site and we have been told that those ads will never be run in the future.
Thank you for all your hard work to achieve this incredible victory! Victories like this one prove that Big Tobacco's influence is waning and that our voices are being heard. Together we can make a difference and protect America's kids from the dangers of tobacco.
Sincerely,
Carter Headrick
