One Million Fewer Smokers in New York
That's The Opportunity We Have Before Us
Dear Tobacco Control Advocate,
The New Year brings good news. Governor Pataki recently proposed a budget that increases funding for the state tobacco control program. Actually he proposes doubling the funding for the program! That’s over $85 million to prevent children from smoking and help those who are currently addicted quit. That’s the largest commitment ever made to tobacco control and prevention in New York State.
Governor Pataki’s proposal to double funding for the state’s Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program puts New York in the forefront of America’s effort to achieve a smoke-free society
However – we haven’t’ succeeded in doubling the program funding just yet. The Governor’s proposal is just the first step. Now we need the State Legislature to approve it.
Your voice is critical in this fight.
Please click here for One Million Fewer Smokers In New York State If the legislature passes the Governor’s proposal – it would drastically reduce youth smoking and save the lives of thousands of New York children and adults.
Smoking is the number one preventable cause of heart disease and 90 percent of smokers start in their teens or younger. Estimates indicate that properly funding the tobacco control program could save 1 million lives by 2010. That’s 1 million fewer smokers in just 4 years.
Unless we act now – and voice our support for this increase to our legislators – thousands of kids will become addicted to cigarettes in 2006, 2007 and beyond.
Email you legislator today. Tell them to protect New Yorkers from the deadly toll of tobacco. Click here to email you legislators and tell them we want One Million Fewer Smokers In New York State
Urge them to approve the Governor’s proposal to increase funding for the state’s tobacco control program. And please forward this alert to your family and friends - let them share in the opportunity to save so many lives.
Thank you for doing your part to protect our kids from the tobacco industry.
Sincerely,
