Senate to Vote on Cancer Research Funding This Week

Tell Your Senators: Vote YES on Amendments to Fund Cancer Research and Programs

Your two U.S. Senators will vote as soon as this afternoon and again later this week on key cancer funding issues.  They MUST be convinced to VOTE YES.

Email your senator IMMEDIATELY since the first vote could happen as soon as this afternoon. Other critical votes will take place later this week.

At first glance, the budget appears to increase funding for cancer research and programs.  However, this is merely a political maneuver. The fact is that this version of the budget is very likely to result in budget cuts, not increases.

 Tell your senator to:

1. Support the Specter-Harkin amendment to increase funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

2. Support other budget amendments that provide more funding to specific cancer programs and research.

What can happen if your U.S. Senator does not help stop these budget cuts?
- Women could be denied mammograms
- Research on new cancer drugs could be halted
- New technology to better detect cancer could be delayed

Please email your senators immediately. Ask them to vote YES on the these cancer-related amendments.

Two minutes of your time to send these emails could be the difference in whether cancer rates continue to drop or begin another deadly rise.
